Routers
A router is a network device that connects two or more packet-switched networks. Routers connect multiple devices to the same Internet, to each other, and direct network traffic like a hub. They also create local networks of devices, which can be useful for sharing files or software.
Routers are sometimes connected to a modem (modulator-demodulator), which translates data from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) into a format that your devices can use. However, nowadays more and more premises do not require the use of modems. Standalone routers can be used in most environments, from homes to office buildings, where they can be plugged directly into the Ethernet ports of telephone jacks.
